Resting in the grass

— after Salvatore Quasimodo

In spite of the light, my lips
lie sealed, as solitudes
set apart; I sleep,
in contradiction,
resting in the grass
where once we lay.

Destined to forget:
day by day,
the dent of freshness
we then both made.
