An Artist's Summer

(Based on the short story, The house with an attic by A.Chekhov)

Clouds helmet the earth. I sip the last
of my soup. An onion skin clings
to the bowl. My burp cracks the silence.

Sunlight fills the steppe, birds fly
shadows over the landscape. My paint
brushes still hold last winter.

A canvas is a half finished jigsaw.
My spine aches, knees long for a walk,
feet itch from the socks I wear.

Cobwebs skirt the corners. A fly
chases itself around my bedroom.
I close my eyes. The clock ticks.

I hear time footstep out of my life.
