Windmills
Three-armed giants line the far shore
of Lake George, arms spinning
in a continuous free-style stroke,
making progress while standing still.
The disappearing lake is full, its waters
lapping at the highway's foundations
while the sun is below the high
horizon of the ridge above.
On the far side, the giants are golden
in the glow of afternoon light.
They swing on still lit by summer sun,
despite remaining fixed in place.
