Marcus Slingsby
Flat
Can't string two words together
He says to himself
As he turns the bike over.
Flat and dyslexic
The air out of his sails and
The tyre lever's are Gran's best spoons.
"Why is it always the back tyre", he asks Halloween
The Black Stray who arrived on the 31st
And is watching the bowl of water
Where the bubbles should come from.
"Gotcha", as I lift out the hissing tube to raised green eyes
And mark it in yellow crayon
A tiny piece of sandpaper
Glue, patch, press, pray.
And before my inflated ego
a cuppa and a purring cat.
