Kathryn Reese
Your favourite bra
The way she turns on you. Last week she was soft,
supporting you in ways you barely noticed.
Not much changed. You both washed,
you both went about your week til the next date—
now, she is more claw than lace, scratching
and nagging. She's poking at your ribs
like your dressmaker aunt, reminding you
of the ways your flesh is mis-placed:
there should be more here, less there.
You should stand upright, your shoulders
should not have such slope—and having done
with her critique she collapses, falling down
your upper arm, waiting to be scooped
back up, into place.
