John Tustin
The Great Blue Heron
The great blue heron,
like thread through a needle's eye,
makes his urgent way,
darting through pale sky
when he comes across
the swirling turkey vultures
and, getting confused,
dances with them
on the delicate breeze,
only for a circle or two,
then rights himself,
shooting back through cloudless air
to where the flowing water always meets the marsh.
