Soaking in Place

boiler lit more than an hour before
opened valve mixes water with soap
a bath fills as I adjust my entry
laying down with neck propped on a towel
before my hand merges with that water
I reach to hit play on the computer
Allen Ginsberg or Robert Bly's voice plays
as skin & ears passively soak in place
like a satiated multi-dimensional sponge
with more than just time to scratch & scrub myself
detaching dead skin while memories parole
the water turns an uncomfortable cold
filled with the grime that was once part of me
& savory inedible soap to drain
