Returning Covenants of Yehuda
older than most people's family memories
these olive trees have survived war
after war—after war—after war
producing little bitter fruit that need fermenting
one day I will massage my children's skin
& their sun soaked backs will glisten
with the many hues of oil from my labor
everyone must know which trees are their trees
as the root binding earth rejuvenates
tell me: what do you do with your dead skin?
