Michelle Ortega
Detach
The weight of this aubergine dawn
(cloudcover, weakened light)
subdues my wakefulness, overcomes
a thoughtless flutter of eyelid
long enough to forget (for a breath)
yesterday, and how one violence
changes everything; into the deep
brain I slide, no body only my pulse
and the coming daylight remain.
