Remnants

Rain taps at the window,
a hesitant visitor
on this grey afternoon.

Photographs scatter across the table,
faces smile from a sunnier past,
frozen in their last laugh.

A cup of tea cools,
untouched, the steam a wisp
of warmth fading.

Outside, leaves drift downward,
a slow dance to the ground,
whispering of seasons turned.

In this quiet room,
echoes fill the spaces you left,
soft as the rain's persistent sigh.
