Mark Kaplon
The Hunter's Vow
In the scattering, shrouding light of dusk...
I have lain as limp as a log
on opposite slopes
and I have mottled my outline
with mud and crushed leaves
and have smothered my scent
in the smoke of herbs—
until, across the glade appearing,
the semblance of your face
disarmed me,
unguarded, and so plain
in heavy, drenching, emptying rains....
