As the Acacia Leaves Fall
I wonder about the blue king fisher
that sits on the acacia tree
will it realize how it has change
will it sense the lost weight
the shift in color, the emptiness in its bark
I remember when my daughters held my hand
as they wait for another story
do they notice the gray and wrinkles
do they hear the lower note of my voice
I watch as the leaves continue to fall
like fresh rain, silently kissing the ground
greeting it with all the life that was left
and in this moment
I accept this found peace in the undeniable loss
and welcome the promise
that everything will be new tomorrow
