I left the crossword pages on the table
under the part of the porch roof that leaks,
and it rained, it rained for hours, and now
I'll never know the answers to clues like
"What causes your tears at twilight?" or
"How uneasily do you sleep when you dream
about Guinevere?" or "What was the name
of the girl whose hand you held during
a movie one night but were too embarrassed
to say a word to her the next day at school,
as she leaned against her locker and all
her friends looked at you?"
