Initiation Rituals

Kids set up like flagpoles,
their mouths: tape recorders of chants.
The national anthem on infinity loop.
Their brains a heimat film.
Planet of the Alps.

The national flag, a ski mask.
They dress like kidnappers,
with style. Professional janitors,
taking the country back, kicking
and screaming, into the past.

Mouths gagged with nostalgia.
Don't kinkshame my conservatism!
All hail the liberation font.
All Stockholm syndrome is love.
