In my old album of black & whites I found
half-eaten hair from Poyou the horse. Poyou,
brown and slow, bewildered, heavy and loving.
The straw-coloured strand of hair crumbling under the onslaught
of the tiniest of gnawing jaws.
I was about to do away with a decaying edition of Die Frau,
a Swiss magazine from the 50s, when a violet
slipped out. A violet – and I do not
know why it was there. Memorabilia.
Old truths too ephemeral to capture between pages.
