In the Midst Of

I am slow to follow my children inside,
to find my own reflection adrift
in glass. What do they see me as?

Decrepit. No more fun to be had.
The rain boot stomping white water
in the kiddie pool is my summery children.

I am the wobbly black trunk reflected
after the water calms. Completely invisible
in the midst of their fun. My raised voice

piping in the branches above. I am far,
remote. It makes it hard to hurry on.
