The window's dust dulls the eye.
Best turn away. With your ear
pressed to the pane, to pass
the time. Hear

the cold coming, the ice
encroaching, the slow freeze.
Of flowers. The blue deepening.
Under the white who knows what

song's. To be heard. What hum
works its way towards you.
With your eyes closed, wake. Wait.
One night will do, one day

without listening. Let the glass
tell, as the pane cracks. Cuts
through the dust to you.
