Where legends begin
working late
a field hand
sharpens his scythe
on the moon
it is bright stone
in his palm
burning from inside
with cold fire
low enough in the sky
to be reached
through the fence
then rehung on a wire
he wipes his wet brow
grips the haft
and swings crescent
swathes through the grass
