Shannon Connor Winward
Teapot
The way that heat tastes
when it scalds your tongue
Everything subdued
by the burn.
The too, too intense love of the sun
Pattern of white on flowers
Steam spitting from the finger of domesticity
up to heaven.
Take a sip.
The little bag of earth
leaches its whole life into the cup.
Bio
Shannon Connor Winward is a mommy and also, sometimes, a poet and author of fiction for children and adults. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in such venues as: Flash Fiction Online, Pedestal Magazine, Vestal Review, Basement Stories, Witches & Pagans Magazine, The Magazine of Speculative Poetry, and Dreamstreets.
Shannon is also a devotee of performance poetry, but she does not memorize her work; she's afraid that if she looks you in the eye from the mic she will fall in love with you, and really. Who has time for that?
Watch for more of Shannon in the upcoming anthologies Jack-O'-Spec: Tales of Halloween and Fantasy (Raven Electrik Ink), Twisted Fairy Tales: Volume Two (Wicked East Press) and Greek Myths Revisited (Wicked East Press), or visit her at http://ladytairngire.livejournal.com/profile.
