in the front garden
the rose bush
reaches triumphantly
beyond the roof
& if you sat beside it
for years you'd never
see it grow –
& those flowers
scarlet lovelorn signifiers
sinking to a carpet
of floral detritus
those same roses
featured in a poem
written years ago

always more to be said
about transience
