Kenneth P. Gurney
Tune Up
Delphi asks my help rearranging the stars
so the earth's horoscope reads better.
She knows it will cause some pain
but she is tired of seeing pelicans die needlessly.
In an obese land, she says, a little more walking
will do the people some good.
Though I worry that our meddling
with planetary positions may cause trouble,
she assures me that her inner ear
maintains a delicate, universal balance,
and please, just nudge Mars over a smidgen
closer to Venus as they share the evening sky.
