John P. Kristofco
soon it will be dark enough...
...my father said
when I asked about the fireworks,
first satellites to dot across the sky,
impatient for the full eclipse,
Venus playing tag with Mars;
"wait until the night
to see the dipper and the fish,"
he'd nod,
pointing with the cigarette
that glowed his face,
his hands,
his words until the fire left
and night had fully come:
too soon it would be dark enough
