Jeremy Casabella
False Summer
Only birds sing the music of heaven in this world.
–Kobayashi Issa
each day the mundane
reclaims amazing for me
buses percolating stationary
or children racing
with undeveloped voices
in a clamor and yes
the migrant gulls
circling some rude debris
yet even the leaves
who commiserate here quietly
and hush at one another
in autumn sun
to listen for these
archangelic symphonies
recites Earth beyond
your inscrutable heavens
