shrieks
howls
screams
snarls
growls
screeching
tombs
graves
corpses
scattered skulls
fiends
ghouls
demons
haunted souls
warlocks and witches
muck
ooze
slime-pits
dripping gore
seeping purulence
marshes, cesspools, and fetid swamps
these
are
symbols
images
of evil spirits
dark deeds, sin, wickedness, malice
venomous thoughts, depraved curses, sinister visions
and
now
I rise
to collect
grim incarnations
of ghastly wraiths, fiends, and zombies
in bleak darkness, searching for terrifying tokens
of the foulest plagues and horrors to attract hordes of young, innocent trick-or-treaters.
