The Twist of a Flame

He
showed
promise
in his youth
for his line drawing:
the embracing curve
of landscapes,
in the
noon
sun.

The
small
motif
of a kite,
above or within
a summer treeline,
captured in
a twist
of
line.

In
these
unsigned
works, the hand
of its creator:
in these mythical
dragons' eyes,
breathing
in
fire.

In
old
age, had
anything
other than subject
ever really changed?
Always there,
the nod
to
line.

Then,
pulled
from a
box, studies
from an age gone by,
from a boy in his
youth with a
flame in
his
eye.

This
stack
of white,
yellow-aged
papers, wafer thin,
scaling the hights of
dragons' wings,
burning
with
fire.
