Looking For The Poetry In Bones

I draw my pen like a freshly cleaned beak through my feathers
First the left wing   then the right   And each and every one of the tail
it fans the sun   I am on my high perch this deadened branch
I know she watches me from the bird hide of her dining room window
Her lookout   The glass has become her eye   She thinks I don't know this

I return to perform again my most intimate routines
in her full view   so she can see herself more kindly
