Billy Howell-Sinnard
The Dazzling Moment Of Your Departure
No one else saw it.
A deer came to the window
then walked carefully
into the woods.
Your hand above the bed,
for an instant, like a hummingbird.
The last breath barely noticeable,
as if never taken or given.
I smiled when I saw the
smile breaking upon your face
like the recoil of a branch
when a hawk takes flight.
