Susan Kolon
Sunday Pilgrimage
I'm asked why I walk stop-and-go
lazy for six miles, pause eighteen
times to lift a fat orb of white
into my pocket. How I spend
five hours swinging, striking, placing,
aiming, rolling over a grassy meadow,
splashing out of a sandy beach
and into a four-inch hole. I ask why
do you congregate under rafters
and not amongst the communion
of sun and air, green and dune?
