Skin

Years lay behind me
Shed like snake skin.
Memories of laughter at some forgotten joke.
Of that look in her eye..
Of sunsets that made mountains glow orange.
And seas turned into a bronze coin burning with
the sun's daily death.
Of salty kisses stolen under the secrecy of the waves.
Of your scent that lingered after you were long gone from my mind.

Memories lost, shed like skin
And forgotten as such.
Left behind in a broken home
Or a summer house long gone cold as absence stretches the past tense.
Gathering dust under the sofa.
Shed like a dragon, that is full of myth and fire.
