Mom said never

Mom said never to go out at night.
I'm black and helpless; my attackers white,
Wandering when the demons turned so faint
Towards the presence of a young, black, saint,

Shielding his face from their violent blows.
Deep are the cuts. Sweeter the blood that flows,
Upon a tree, when nailed in broad daylight,
Black and helpless; the demons dressed in white.
