Salt bath

The memories stick
Like grains of salt
under fingernails.

Flecks of white dust
Smother my body in
A sheet of snow.

The water is
No comfort.
Just a thin dilution

Of the pain
That wracks me,
Body in shock.

And I sting everywhere,
even in wounds
I didn't know were open.
