Rains
Not long ago, I was dashing bare-skinned
between clean strands of rain
that jingled like glass-bead curtains.
On windowsills, geraniums, brilliant, spring, endless.
Now feels like November, rain so forlorn
trees melt to tears across glass panes;
feels like old age, rain rusting joints
that grate and flake, confining body to its pain
traps it indoors.
