Wes Carrington
Hermit Crab Hair Clip
On her head, a hermit crab sits,
pulling blonde locks to the side.
As we eat, the claws move a bit
letting some strands escape their grasp.
"Your hair," I finally say, "it's ... longer."
I don't mention the hermit crab, lest it spoil the evening,
but when I was young, I had one too.
So we talk of food and wine and war and things, just things.
The hermit crab listens quietly,
taking notes in her bright, sun-kissed hair.
