Georgia Coomer
Echoes
Their laughter lingers in empty rooms,
a ghost of warmth against winter walls.
I find them stirring memories into soup.
The cups they held still hold their shape,
fingerprints like fossils on the porcelain.
At night, the house creaks with their footsteps.
I've learned to listen for them in the dark,
these whispers of a life well-lived.
I've learned to catch their voices
carried on the breeze through open windows.
Sometimes I speak their names aloud
just to feel them form on my tongue,
solid and real, if only for a moment.
The world keeps turning without them,
but their gravity still pulls at me.
