Insomnia

Insomnia is a woodpecker
hammering at the oak
of your skull. Whatever's
nesting in there will fly.
"You can't hallucinate
happiness" your eyes
seem to say. They carry
the weight of a childhood
home repossessed by a man
who never knew your name
or how your heart leapt like a salmon
out of your mouth whenever he knocked.
