Physics Lesson
We make light of love
insisting that nothing reflects
from the dark side of the moon.
When light goes too far
it curves and comes back
making seismic waves that
wash up fossils
the forgotten fishes whose
sharp backbones extrude
from pale gravels in
railway cuttings.
We see why Sisyphus
bears the weight he bears
rather than look up
at the darkness ahead.
