Eugenie Simpson
Grandmothers of Syria
We've seen you
on our large screens screaming
or stunned with eyes brimful
of grief too large to cipher
through even several sittings.
We wait through the commercial
break that drains enough
juice we scarcely notice
afterimages. Later
perhaps we'll dream
of wandering in knots
of fallen plaster and wake
coughing as if we too breathed
only dust.
