Sitting,
Arms so large
Crossed against bare chest,
Pulling his shoulders down
As he leans across the table.
Eyes tiny,
Tearing at the air.
He sends his silence
Crashing down against us.

Craig McVay, a retired Latin teacher from Columbus, Ohio, has published a handful of poems (and one short story) in local and national journals, in print and online; among them Avatar Review, Blue Unicorn, The Classical Journal, Icon, and Shark Reef.
