Bob McAfee
Iceberg and Soul
Cold and broken off,
drifting on the open sea,
serenely quiet, now and then
the silence broken by a sudden
shearing as another part is lost
into oblivion.
From the time of calving
to the time of death
in waters far from the fjords,
we float on the ocean tide.
Only the tip is seen
dancing above the waterline,
a tenth in view, exposed to all.
The rest is safely tucked away
below.
