Light Years

I
can't
calculate
how long it will take
to get to the moon in light years

when I don't know how to reckon ordinary time,

ordinary time being what we humans use to get from one sunup to the next

intact, but what will happen if an unruly, fractious cosmos decides to take matters into its own hands by lobbing chaotic bolts

of flame to propel homo sapiens off to the nether worlds, not all of us, but as many as needed to restore some semblance of order
on our small planet, which is being ravaged by consciously made decisions

that threaten our very existence. Perhaps we will go the way of the dinosaurs, who seem to have been taken out by strikes from the beyond which makes me wonder if tyrannosaurus rex and stegosaurus and the rest of them had pissed off the cosmos millennia before we humans ever got started on our long, arduous journey out of the swamps.
