Caged

We
are
all caged
either side
locked in or locked out
once I saw a Bengal tiger
ornamental in a zoological garden
that Bengal tiger saw me too
hatred or hunger
burning bright
he charged
the
fence

food
chain
fodder
I was prey
a mouse for a cat
as naked as a blackbird's worm
on the menu in a cage with the tiger outside
open the gate and out comes in
there's nowhere to hide
in the wild
we're all
fair
game

I'm
a
rookie
reporter
covering demos
behind a barrier alone
Maggie Maggie Maggie Out Out Out they're hollering
before Mrs Thatcher arrives
they ram the steel fence
more tigers'
hunger
I'm
caged
