Sterling Warner
Postal Pillars Fibonacci

Twenty mangled mailboxes stood side by side, targets
for teens' Red Ryder BB guns,
communication
case for love
letters,
gas
bills,

guard
rails
for drunks
and joggers
morning, noon and night.
Darla adorned her postal drop
with reflectors-blue, red, gold-straightened the weathered pile
after winter rains and blizzards
while boxes to the
left and
right of
her
own

bent
like
palms stressed
by monsoons.
Though neighbors died off
mailbox vestiges lingered—grand
tributes to times paper missives trumped texting & tweets.
