Straws In The Wind

dark
clouds
ignite
the night sky;
tinder-dry forests
light the eyes of fleeing wildlife

down
-rush
gushes
from ice sheets
as whitecaps lap at
listing tombstones in a graveyard

ax
and
chainsaw
split the mist
where woodsmen lumber
down trails bound for the Mother Trees
