Hindsight Neglect
For Hans P. Guth

Brush maples stand naked along the road, their leopard
spotted leaves scatter, blow into
the canal rising
higher and
higher;
as
the
rain
fall
resumes,
creek beds swell
tributaries flow
awaiting snowy wonderlands
when icicles hang off roof awnings & cedar boughs.

People bitch about overgrown spring gardens, find fault
with summertime's fiery breath, lakes
lacking water, dry
autumn's winds,
wildfires
floods
but
too
soon
forget
relieving
waves afforded soft
August nights and brisk April days:
nature's inconstant beauty spring, summer, fall, winter.
