Brian Beatty
Walking the Dog in Winter
The dark's companion animals,
we circle the giant moon the lake
becomes every morning and night.
It's too early or too late or too cold
for any neighbors to make it out.
So lost in the fog of our own breath
we walk alone, just the two of us,
like the brush stroke of an old, blind
zen master we'll also never meet.
