Ink
Rubberneckers
From seats saturated with summer sweat
forced from pores in car cabins
stalled in traffic
sweltering with glass-focused sun,
deep down
after hours of inching through snarled traffic,
we just want to see death's bony hands full —
waiting beside a critically occupied gurney
or fending off jaws of life
with flames and steel grip —
on the other side of the divider
or outside the driver's side window
to make our invested wait worth it,
to feel relief in the comforting breeze
