Arthur Russell
Love Alone
Is it possible to be in love,
truly in love and also feel alone
and be alright with that for years
like the first warm day of March,
when the sun comes out but there's
still snow on the ground
so the cold radiates upward
from the snow while the sun
warms your face, until one night
you're sitting on the side of your bed
before you go to sleep, your
solitary spine refuses the answer
