Lois Marie Harrod
And, Or and Not
And she said she wanted a nice house
one that was solid—
not this tumbling down two-level shack
built in the 50's or 60's by contractors
who went bankrupt.
Or she said she was quite happy
with her tumbledown,
the one that was not
as well insulated as it could be,
but small enough to clean herself,
saving that $100 a week
it would take someone else to scrub it up.
Not that sometimes she didn't think
she'd rather not scrub the kitchen floor
or the bathroom walls and ceiling again.
