Summer Solstice

Zinnias sit still
in summer solstice pining
the lovers refrain.
Moonlight shreds apart
carefully constructed heart
an eternal bane.
Highlands echo crisp
notes of shared promises
love is never sane.
Lustrous vermillion
scented wrists, tinkling anklets
battled death in vain.
Forsaken dreams seek
restful pier, embracing
chalices of pain.
