Bio
Brian Kirk is a poet and short story writer from Dublin. He was selected for the Poetry Ireland Introductions series in 2013 and shortlisted for the Patrick Kavanagh Award in 2014 and 2015. His first poetry collection After The Fall was published by Salmon Poetry in 2017. He is a member of the Hibernian Writers Workshop and he blogs at www.briankirkwriter.com.

Busker
While he played we stood around
exchanging smiles though no one spoke.
And when he stopped some clapped or dropped
a coin into his hat while others looked away.
Some turned their backs on him, distracted
by their private cares, but we gathered
the residue of melody and pulled it around us
like a favourite old coat buttoned up against
a new chill in the air.
